It has been a few weeks since I ave updated this. Taylor was in the hospital for a while and I was with him while he was there. He had a hernia repair on the 18
th. He came home the 19
th just fine, and was back in the ER by the 22
nd. He had aspirated and his left lung was collapsed, and his right one was mostly collapsed.
Hewas intubated, which means that he was put on a ventilator, right away in the ER and moved to the Pediatric ICU. HE came off the Ventilator twice
inthe 9 days that we were there, but failed both times. He was
reintubated both times. The second time, on Wednesday the 30
th, Taylor had a scope of his airway and lungs done. The
ENT found multiple problems with his airway that would have required extensive surgery, the placement of a
treach and many future scopes. The problems were that Taylor's throat was scraped raw inside and also that his vocal chords were damaged. Reflux was continuing to worsen these problems. Further down he had a blood vessel that bisected his chest horizontally. This is not normal. It was restricting his lower airway to a large degree, possibly cutting it off sometimes. Further down there were many many secretions in his lungs that they were having a hard time cleaning out. When we heard this information, we knew it was in Taylor's best interest not to have the surgeries. It was just too much. The doctor who performed the scope met with us after returning to the
PICU and made sure that we understood everything correctly, and told us that even if we did the surgeries, he was not optimistic about Taylor's airway ever being able to support him or totally support him again. Following the surgeries there would be so many follow up scopes and possible other surgeries on top of those and the others he would need for the rest of his body. Brett and I decided to let Taylor leave this earth rather than continue on the Ventilator indefinitely or have these surgeries.
Our family rallied to our sides and nearly everyone had the chance to say their goodbyes. It was a time of extreme
reverance and love. Taylor knew he was loved and that all of his family, whether they could be there or not, loved him deeply and he loved them. After most everyone at the hospital was able to hold him one last time, we put him in the crib so everyone could say a last goodbye there and then everyone but Brett and I and the nurses and doctors left. We held Taylor while the tube was taken out and the nurse administered medication to keep him comfortable. We held him as he gently left us. It was sweet and peaceful and a blessing. He didn't stay long after the tube was gone, so we knew he had been ready and that Heavenly Father was calling him home. We of course were sad, but we are happy for him and know that now he can play and move and eat and breathe like other children. His beautiful little body was perfect
to house his spirit in for his short mission here, but had limitations that he does not have now. We bathed him and had pictures that "Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep" did for us. It was beautiful. The funeral will be on Monday August 4, at 12:00 pm at Wasatch Lawn Memorial on 3401 Highland Dr.
We will always miss him, but have been so blessed to have him in our home, family and lives. Thank you to everyone who has supported us and helped us. We love you all.
